HISTORY
  • 1833
    In 1833, C. A. Scholtz opened a hardware store, Matejovce. In 1845, an engineering workshop was founded under the name of C. A. Scholtz, Matejovce, where combs, sheet metal, tin-coated and zinc-coated goods were sold. Gradually, drawing presses were introduced in the production and the workshop changed to enamel works and pressing plants with more than 800 employees and assortment of military items.
  • 1945
    The company was nationalized on 27th October 1945 and since 1946 it existed as an independent enterprise under the name of Spojené smaltovne, n. p. Matejovce. Since February 1950, the name of the enterprise changed to TATRASMALT, n. p. Matejovce. Step by step, a new production program was prepared, the basic point of which were electrical appliances intended for households. The production of electric water heaters, metal pallets, electric ovens and automatic washing machines started.
  • 1974
    In 1974, the company was renamed to TATRAMAT, n. p. Matejovce, later Poprad. In the 1980s, automatic washing machines and electric water heaters became a dominant of the production and the product range was completed with laundry flat irons.
  • 1990
    Tatramat, n.p., became a joint stock company. A joint venture, WHIRLPOOL TATRAMAT, producing automatic washing machines and white goods was established. In 1992, another subsidiary, a joint venture, TATRAMAT QUASAR, specializing in the production of tools, spare parts, castings and vending machines for hot and cold drinks, started its operation. The parent company, TATRAMAT, a.s., completely renewed the technology of production of electric water heaters. In the late 1990s, a joint-venture company, SCAMETATRA, a.s., for pressing plastic parts for automatic washing machines was founded.
  • 2001
    STD, a.s., a joint venture with an Italian partner, oriented at the production of expanded polystyrene packages for consumer and food industry packaging was developed.
    The opening of the European market and high competition in 2004 created conditions for the sale of TATRAMAT – water heaters, s.r.o. to the significant German group, STIEBEL ELTRON GRUPPE. In 2008, the Prior department store in Banská Bystrica was acquired and the Prior POPRAD department store in Poprad was completely reconstructed.
  • 2017
    A joint venture of Expandtech, a.s. focusing on the production of expanded polypropylene components for automobile industry was established.
NOW

The new production capacities have enabled us to expand our automobile customer portfolio in the supply of EPP and EPS components.
The consolidation of aluminium component production and transition to automated workplaces in order to increase production capacity and optimize production costs have brought new challenges.
The production plants of the subsidiaries are located in Poprad.
In terms of business activities, TATRAMAT, a.s. operates the Obchodný dom PRIOR POPRAD, a.s., Poprad, with its own business units and premises for rent with the total useful area of 5 thousand square metres and the PRIOR, a.s., Banská Bystrica with the total useful area of 3,5 thousand square metres. A long-term tradition, excellent location in the centre of cities, as well as optimization of costs and revenues create real conditions for further development of the company.
